Professor Bellamkonda is Professor, Carol Ann and David D. Flanagan Chair in Biomedical Engineering, GCC Distinguished Scholar, and Associate Vice president for research at the Wallace H. Coulter Dept. of biomedical engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University.
Professor Bellamkonda’s areas of research include: neural tissue engineering, targeted drug delivery for brain tumor therapy, peripheral & central nerve regeneration, electrode-brain interfaces, long circulating contrast agents, and polymeric biomaterials. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, Professor Bellamkonda was a Markey Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, at MIT. Professor Bellamkonda was awarded his Ph.D. from Brown University in 1994.
His various awards include: Secretarial Appointee, VA Rehabilitation Merit Review Board, Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar, and ‘Best Professor’ Award conferred by the undergraduate student body of the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology/Emory University. Professor Bellamkonda was inducted as an American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) Fellow in 2006 and served on AIMBE’s board as Vice President, At-Large before being elected to President-Elect in 2013.
